Bio: Berkley is a beautiful 6-year-old purebred golden retriever. Unfortunately, he spent those years with a breeder that has since been shut down. Poor Berkley’s self-esteem suffered due to terrible neglect. Now that Berkley is no longer caged up, he is slowly learning what the real world is like. He is very sweet and gentle. When he looks up with those soulful eyes he seems to be reaching out for someone to love him.
He had never been in a house before but he quickly learned to do his business
outside and is positively housetrained. Berkley is quiet and because he's so shy
he is not destructive in the house and also gets along with his golden/lab
foster siblings. He has 3 kitties in his foster home, one of which curls up with
him from time to time.
His foster parents are diligently working on teaching Berkley it's ok to trust people. He's not sure who to trust yet but each day he becomes a little more trusting, a little less frightened. Berkley is learning to walk on a leash and for the very first time started sniffing around the yard with his foster siblings. Curiosity is a very positive sign that Berkley will overcome his fears and learn to explore! All 3 of his foster siblings seem to sense that Berkley needs extra TLC. They are very gentle with him and he even lets them give him kisses and curl up next to him now.
Berkley's past is sad but GRFR has given him the second chance he deserves!
He has a bright future ahead of him!! He doesn’t yet know all the fun things to
do, the nice people to meet, and exciting places to explore, but with time and
patience he can learn to trust his people and be a happy dog. Berkley is hoping
to find a family that will love him and be patient and devote lots of time to
helping him overcome his past. Along with loving people, Berkley must go to a
home with another dog. Having a companion will help him continue to learn what
it's like to be a real golden!

Bio: Cowboy is a seven-year-old purebred male golden retriever and came from the same breeder as Berkley. Both boys were not socialized well with people, so they are taking a bit longer in foster care. They are learning what it means for people to be nice to them and love them, instead of using them just for breeding. We're sure that Cowboy's babies were beautiful, but his personality and trust in people suffered because of it.
Every day is an adventure for Cowboy. He's learning so much and observing
everything that happens around him. He has a big golden brother, Zach, who is
trying to help him learn. Cowboy is scared and he hasn't been around very many
people. He needs someone who wants to work with him to develop an everlasting
bond. Dogs like Cowboy are so special and it's such a rewarding experience when
they finally trust you.
