January 2010 ~ Meet Laker

LakerGender: Male

Age: 7 years

Location: Tulsa, OK

Rescue Group: Sooner Golden Retriever Rescue (SGRR)

Out of State Adoptions:  Yes

Bio:  Laker is a 7-yr-old golden retriever who ended up in a shelter in Oklahoma, was transferred to a rescue in Arkansas, and then made his way back to Oklahoma by way of SGRR.  Laker has four legs, but his left rear leg is very weak due to an old injury. He is just a sweetheart of a boy and gets around remarkably well on three legs, although a little awkward when it comes to steps.

Loves people and gets on well with other dogs. Didn't seem to show any interest in the resident cat at the clinic.

LakerHis leg and hip have been x-rayed by our local vet.  He did confirm that this is definitely a very old injury and he was probably hit by a car, no muscle mass at all in the leg.  Laker’s hip socket is completely shattered and in this vet’s opinion, he doesn't feel that surgery to repair this is an option, and the only thing he would suggest is amputation.  However, he doesn't think Laker is in any pain at this point and really doesn't think that anything needs to be done. Laker has not been seen by an orthopedic specialist.

Looking past his leg, Laker is an otherwise healthy adult with the hallmark golden temperament. He’s currently in boarding and would love a foster home as he searches for his forever family.
