Rescue of the Month

October 2012 ~ Meet Libby

LibbyGender: Female

Age: 5 months

Location: Knoxville, TN

Rescue Group: Adopt A Golden Knoxville

Out of State Adoptions: Yes

Bio: Meet Libby! She is a 5-month-old Golden Retriever and Great Pyrenees mix. Libby comes with a sad story. She was surrendered to a local shelter because the family ignored her broken leg and refused to do anything about it. It appears the break was at least 2 months old. Right now, we are working with our vets and UT to figure out what her next steps are. She is on pain medication and seems to have no issues using her bad leg at the moment. Libby is a sweet, gentle, calm puppy!

LibbyUPDATE: Libby has an old fracture of her left elbow that would not benefit from surgery at this point. We are working on building muscle in that limb to help her have a better quality of life and not have to amputate her front leg in the future. In the short term she should have proper management of diet and work with veterinarians. She should ALWAYS stay slim. She will need a special diet, supplements and physical therapy and very committed owners. The vets at UT see a bright future for Libby with the correct management.
